[UPDATED APRIL 2022]

DESCRIPTION

These tests, offered by TDL, screen for the common illnesses and include:

  • haematology (for anaemia, leukaemia, blood problems), see Haematology - interpretation
  • liver tests (bilirubin, enzyme levels, protein levels),
  • kidney tests (urea and creatinine),
  • biochemistry (sugar levels, cholesterols - total, HDL and LDL , triglycerides, sodium and calcium; but not potassium, which leaks out of cells and so cannot be done on a postal sample), see Biochemistry - interpretation
  • thyroid function test, i.e. free T4,TSH (hypothyroidism is increasingly common, and my guess is that because of increasing pollution, symptoms of hypothyroidism creep up insidiously and are often mistaken for signs of ageing),
  • faecal occult blood (some bowel problems).

This group of tests screens for the majority of common diseases and is a good starting point for any investigation of health problems.

For those people who think they are otherwise well, tests of nutritional and toxic status can be used to confirm or refute that! Many diseases start with unforseen micronutrient deficiencies or unknown toxic stress. My experience is that the functional tests are more useful than measuring actual levels and so I would recommend the following:

Cancer Screening

SAMPLE

The batch of tests offered as "Disease screening tests" requires blood, urine and stool samples

KIT

Bloods - DL6L + free T3: lavender topped EDTA tube, gold topped serum tube, grey topped fluoride oxalate tube

Urine - we will send you Multistix urine test so you can do this test yourself

Stool - Blue topped sample bottle

INSTRUCTIONS

To complete the test: have the blood taken and put in the blood tube (see blood letting information), make sure that your name and date of birth are clearly marked on the tube. Check that your details are correct on the request form. Using the packaging material provided prepare the sample for posting in the enclosed envelope. Please, make sure that the request form is sent along with the samples. Do not post the sample on a Friday.

For the Faecal Occult Blood test you simply need to collect a random stool sample and the Multistix urine analysis kit includes a colour chart - you need to check your stick against the chart after the correct amount of time. For interpretation of MULTISTIX analysis results, see Urine MULTISTIX analysis interpretation .

Please, note that there is an interpretation fee for my letter to your GP. See Ordering Tests for more details.
